Project Overview
The Arizona Department of Transportation is studying long-term improvements for over 46 miles of Interstate 10, between Interstate 8 at milepost 196 in Casa Grande and Tangerine Road at milepost 240 in Marana.
The goal of the study is to establish a long-range plan to accomodate future traffic projections and establish a framework for future improvement projects as traffic volumes increase.
Public Input
To successfully plan for the long-term future of I-10, ADOT requests your input. To submit your comments, please e-mail angie@gordleydesign.com or mail to:

Preferred Long-Range Plan
MP 196 to MP 202
MP 203 to MP 213
MP 214 to MP 223
MP 224 to MP 234
MP 235 to MP 240
The preferred alternative proposes to expand I-10 to five lanes in each direction and reconstruct each interchange along the corridor.
What the Study is Evaluating
• Highway deficiencies
• Freight mobility
• Frontage roads
• Traffic interchanges
• Drainage features
• Environmental issues
Project Schedule and Purpose • Began in the spring of 2006
• Anticipated completion in 2010 or 2011
• Will produce an Access Management Plan and Design Concept Report
• Will follow the National Environmental Policy Act process to evaluate alternatives for improvements and document potential impacts to the social, natural and cultural environment • Will identify and incorporate environmental mitigation measures into future I-10 improvements
Study Progress
• Held a total of six public meetings (in Casa Grande, Eloy and Marana) within the project area in September 2006 and May 2007, and held a neighborhood meeting in the community of Picacho in August 2008
• Met with and received comments from stakeholders, highly impacted neighborhoods and area jurisdictions
• Incorporated public and stakeholder input in evaluation of long-range plan
• Completed proposed preferred long-range plan
Next Steps
• Finalize the draft preliminary design and draft environmental document
• Hold public hearing in fall of 2010 to present draft long-range plan and environmental mitigation measures to receive public input
• Incorporate public comment and finalize long-range plan
I-10/I-8 Interchange Area (MP 198 to MP 201) Update
• Preliminary design of the long-range plan for the I-10/I-8 interchange has been completed; it proposes high-speed directional ramps connecting the two interstate highways.
• A new interchange is proposed at I-10 and Selma Highway (MP 197), and ramps would be removed that currently connect Jimmie Kerr Boulevard to I-10. Traffic from Jimmie Kerr Boulevard would access I-10 by using a frontage road that would connect to Selma Highway.
• The Sunland Gin Road interchange (MP 200) is recommended to be relocated about a quarter-mile southeast of its existing location, and the relocated Sunland Gin Road/Overfield Road corridor has been planned by local jurisdictions to become a roadway of regional importance linking Arizona City to Coolidge.
• The I-10/I-8 interchange has been planned to accommodate a potential new interchange along I-8 at Henness Road.
• View detailed information of the I-10/I-8 Interchange Proposed Design.
I-10 Alignment through the Community of Picacho (MP 210 to MP 213)
Three options were presented at public meetings held throughout the corridor in May 2007, and comments from the public were received for review and consideration. After further study, discussion and input, the project team is recommending a preferred alternative which includes a realignment of the freeway through the community of Picacho.
The advantages of the preferred alternative include:
• Reducing the number of freeway curves and improving traffic flow along I-10.
• Removing existing embankment to improve the visual aspects of the freeway.
• Relocating the freeway along the railroad mainline, consolidating a major freeway and major railroad into one corridor.
• Reduction of noise levels in areas of Picacho located south of the freeway.
• The realignment will be constructed as a separate project from the I-10 Corridor Study.
• Reconstruction of the SR 87 interchange could be scheduled with freeway realignment.
• View detailed information of the I-10 Alignment through the Community of Picacho.
Realigning and widening the freeway to three lanes in each direction through the community of Picacho would be done as part of an interim-widening project from State Route (SR) 87 to Picacho Peak Road. Please see the Related Projects section for further details on interim widening projects throughout the corridor.
Following is information presented at public and neighborhood meetings throughout the course of the project.
